Demonstration: Traffic Safety 1 Demonstration Presenters: Westin Blidy and Thomas Stefano Talking to our driver education students about airbags is important; showing them a video on the topic can also have a significant impact; but demonstrating how airbags actually work can have a lasting effect. This demonstration uses a real airbag system from an automobile graveyard (junk yard) to teach about occupant restraints. "Car Fit" - Choosing the Right Vehicle
Helping Young and Mature Drivers Find the Safest Fit Presenter: Donna Stressel, OTR/DRS, SunnyView Hospital and Rehabilitation Center Schenectady, NY CarFit is an educational program that offers older adults the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles "fit" them.The CarFit program provides information and materials on community-specific resources that could enhance their safety as drivers, and/or increase their mobility in the community. Insurance - What We Need to Teach & How the Evolving Technology is Helping
Presenter: Sandy Hoodak, Fairbury High School As a driver education teacher at Fairbury High School, Sandy Hoodak , an insurance underwriter in a former life, has a real handle on what students need to know about insurance and wants to explore and share ideas with others. Sandy will share critically important subject matter with humor and real life examples. She will explain the insurance concept, state requirements, typical coverage choices and how they work, what to do in the event of an accident. She will also touch on the impact of new vehicle technology and how that is helping to make the Highway Transportation System (HTS) safer through insurance incentives.
