New York State Teen Summit A Success !!
This event was being conducted during May's Global Youth Traffic Safety Month and coordinated by the NYS Governor's Traffic Safety Committee, The goal was designed to empower youth to develop a comprehensive plan for engaging their peers about the issues of safe, undistracted, controlled and sober driving. Congrats on the success of this event!!
Teens in the 10th or 11th grade across the state were invited to participate. Joel Lee and Lori Updyke and students from their schools were able to attend, along with 90+ other students and chaperones from across the state, More on this event soon.

About the Initiative:
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death in Veterans in the early years after returning from deployment.
The Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Transportation, along with the Department of Defense, are combining forces to reduce the risk of motor vehicle crashes among Veterans, particularly those returning from the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Race Car Driver and Safe Driving Schools operator Richard Petty is the Chairman of the Veterans' Safe Driving Initiative, and is making a number of appearances in communities throughout the Nation to discuss driving safety with Veterans.

- Don't drink and drive.
- Don't ride with a drunk driver.
- Always wear your seat belt—driving, in the passenger seat, or in a back seat.
- If you ride a motorcycle, always wear a helmet and ride sober.
- Mile for mile, your risk of a fatal crash is about 35 times higher on your motorcycle than in your car.
